According to Statistic Brains, the average attention span in 2012 was 8 seconds, only 49% of words are read on web pages with 111 words or less and the average length watched of a single internet video was 2.7 minutes.  With this said, as much as we want our consumers to read all the information written on our website, they simply can’t focus long enough to continue reading along. Why not make a short video summarizing your amazing product or service?

Even though Google-bots are still not capable of reading Flash (surprisingly so), it does not mean the contents within it can’t be used for SEO purposes.

Help your rankings by adding video transcript to your videos. In a gist, video transcripts are the closed captions you see on Youtube. When you upload videos to Youtube it automatically creates closed captions based on speech-to-text technology that has been implemented for it, but it is not very reliable.

To view the closed captions on a video, click on the CC at the bottom right. YouTube also provides the option of adding captions in other languages as well.

Listen to any informational video, how many keywords are said repeatedly?  Now with the transcripts added to your video Google-bots can now “read along to your video” and index the information for future search queries. This is a great method to naturally integrate keywords in your content without having to “keyword stuff.”

When creating your video, be sure you are focusing on quality because it is an extension of your brand.  Audio and visual qualities are just as important as the words that are said. It is better to say your keyword more towards the beginning of the video to emphasize the importance.  If you want to go the extra mile, embed videos to the appropriate webpage that match the keyword you are focusing on, i.e. alt texts, url structure, anchor texts and page content.  This will improve your rankings because the rich context gives the search engines enough content to work with. Adding captions not only shows Google and your audience your focus on customer experience, but also expanding your audience to the deaf and hearing impaired.
